Grand World: canals, bamboo architecture and an evening by the lake

At Grand World, the canal is the thread that holds an evening together. Colourful façades turn into reflections, families stop for ice cream, and the walk gradually leads towards music and light at the lake. Come before dark and you get two versions of the place: the architecture in daylight and the waterfront after the lights come on.

Grand World is the free-to-enter shopping and entertainment district in Phu Quoc’s northwest, opened in April 2021. Allow an afternoon and evening for Bamboo Legend, the Venice canal, dinner and a show. Gondolas, the Teddy Bear Museum and the main Quintessence of Vietnam performance have separate tickets.

Grand World Phu Quoc is in the northern resort district. It is separate from Sunset Town in the south and from Grand World Ocean City near Hanoi.

Grand World

Its canals and European-style shopfronts are a deliberately designed visitor district, rather than an old trading town. That distinction makes the visit more interesting: the attraction is the theatrical mix of architecture, food and performance, all close enough to enjoy on foot. The wider northern complex also includes VinWonders and Vinpearl Safari, but those are separate destinations with their own entrances. Grand World works particularly well as the evening part of a northern day, when a museum or theme-park visit has finished and you want dinner somewhere lively. The waterfront in this guide is the Venice canal and Lake of Love; the open sea at Bãi Dài is a different setting.

Choose the version of Grand World you want

For architecture and photographs, arrive before sunset.

  1. For a family outing, combine the canal with the Teddy Bear Museum. For performance, build the evening around Quintessence of Vietnam and the later lakeside show.

From Bamboo Legend to the Venice canal

Start with Bamboo Legend, also called Huyền thoại Tre, while there is enough daylight to see the woven structure and the way the bamboo curves overhead.

It gives the visit a Vietnamese architectural counterpoint to the European façades nearby. Continue towards the canal, where bridges, cafés and rows of colourful buildings provide a natural walking route. The clock tower is a useful landmark when meeting friends or orienting yourself after taking a side street. A gondola changes the perspective: you see the façades from water level rather than through the railings. It is an optional paid experience, not something required to enjoy the canal. Keep walking into the side streets if you want photographs with more architectural detail and fewer people crowding the same bridge.

What is free, and what needs a ticket?

Walking around the commercial streets and canal does not require a general admission ticket.

Budget separately for food, transport and any paid attraction you actually want. The three main extras are the gondola, Teddy Bear Museum and the evening performance of Quintessence of Vietnam. The official show page lists VND 300,000 for Quintessence, a useful starting figure for the evening budget. The museum is a themed indoor visit, useful when the family wants something beyond another photo stop. Quintessence is the choice for a staged cultural production; a canal walk gives a different experience and does not replace its auditorium view. Buy for the attraction by name rather than assuming a VinWonders or Safari ticket includes everything at Grand World. Keeping these costs separate makes it perfectly reasonable to visit just for a meal, a walk and the lakeside atmosphere without committing to a package.

Two performances, two different settings

The operator’s published programme places Quintessence of Vietnam at 20:15–21:00 and Charm of Venice at 21:30–21:55.

The first is in the dedicated Quintessence of Vietnam space; the second is at Lake of Love. These are not two names for the same show. The gap between them is useful for walking towards the lake rather than starting another sit-down meal. Eat before the first performance if you want both. For visitors arriving with small children, the later finish is a real consideration: the canal is already attractive before the last show, so a shorter evening still works. The programme is listed here as reviewed on 18 October 2026; dated event changes belong in the show guide rather than turning every part of the area visit into a timetable.

An afternoon-to-night route that flows naturally

Our suggested sequence is daylight at Bamboo Legend, a canal walk, an early dinner, then your chosen performance.

Around 16:00 is a useful planning start rather than an attraction opening time: it leaves daylight for buildings and a break before the evening crowds. If the museum is a priority, start earlier and treat it as a proper stop, not something to squeeze between dinner and a show. Spend the first walk getting your bearings, then choose where to eat instead of returning to the entrance each time. After Quintessence, head towards Lake of Love for Charm of Venice. If you skip the ticketed show, the same evening can be much looser: dinner, photographs from the bridges and a drink overlooking the water.

Grand World or Gành Dầu village?

The most revealing northern pairing is Grand World and Gành Dầu village, because they show different sides of the same corner of Phu Quoc.

Grand World is planned entertainment: façades, canal views, shops and performances. Gành Dầu is a fishing settlement with boats, shoreline meals and the cape beyond it. Visit the village in daylight and finish at Grand World if you want both, keeping a vehicle for the transfer. Another workable pairing is one major park followed by Grand World dinner. Trying Safari, VinWonders, the village and two night shows in one day leaves little time to enjoy any of them. Grand World is strongest when it has an evening of its own, even if the daytime stop was somewhere nearby.

Arriving from Dương Đông or a northern resort

From Dương Đông and the Long Beach corridor, approach Grand World along the west/northwest side of the island, passing the Ông Lang and Cửa Cạn direction.

Give a driver Grand World and a specific meeting landmark, rather than simply “Vinpearl”, which covers several different places. A taxi or booked car is straightforward for a group staying in central Phu Quoc; northern hotel guests can also use their property’s transfer arrangements. VinBus serves the Grand World connection, with route information available in its journey planner. For the return, choose the stop or pickup point before the lake performance begins. A canal-side café is a pleasant meeting place on foot, but it is not necessarily a place where a car can pull up. Avoid combining Grand World with Sunset Town on the same evening: the two districts are at opposite ends of the island.

The simple plan

Daylight architecture, early dinner, then the lake.

  1. Add tickets only for the museum, gondola or performance you want.

Questions about Grand World

When did Grand World Phu Quoc open?

Grand World opened on 21 April 2021 as part of Phu Quoc United Center. Its Venice-inspired streets are a modern tourism development, not a historic town.

Can I visit without buying a ticket?

Yes. The commercial streets and canal walk have free general access. Gondolas, the Teddy Bear Museum and the main Quintessence of Vietnam show are separately ticketed.

How long should I allow?

Plan an afternoon and evening for architecture, dinner and a show. A shorter canal-and-dinner visit is easy; add more daytime time if the museum is part of the plan.

Where are the two evening shows?

Quintessence of Vietnam is in its dedicated cultural performance space, listed at 20:15–21:00. Charm of Venice is at Lake of Love, listed at 21:30–21:55. Eat before the first if attending both.

Is Grand World the same as VinWonders?

No. Grand World is the shopping and entertainment district. VinWonders is the separate theme park nearby; Safari is another separate attraction. They can share a northern itinerary but not a single assumed entrance.

Should I go to Grand World or Sunset Town?

Choose Grand World for canals, bamboo architecture and the northern evening shows. Choose Sunset Town for a sea-facing hillside, Kiss Bridge and the southern waterfront. Give each a separate evening rather than crossing the island between them.
