Long Beach: sunset walks, changing shores and a table by the sea

Long Beach is where a resort afternoon and everyday island life can occupy the same horizon. Our originals notice fishermen hauling nets near hotel frontage, a change in the sand underfoot and the pause when the sun drops towards the sea. It is a coast with several neighbourhoods, not one polished scene. Choose your section and the afternoon starts to make sense.

Long Beach/Bai Truong is the western coastal corridor south of Duong Dong. Choose Tran Hung Dao and Cua Lap for town-side food and an established hotel strip, or Sonasea and Phu Quoc Marina for a southern resort-and-club afternoon. Sunset is the common thread; the actual entrance, shore and dinner setting differ.

Bai Dai is the separate northwestern resort coast. A Long Beach address needs a specific neighbourhood or business, not just the English beach name.

What it really feels like

A coast that changes as you walk

The most useful detail in our Long Beach originals is the contrast.

One frontage is arranged for sunset dinner, another has working boats or nets, and another shows coarser sand or debris after rough weather. That mixture is part of the place. Take a short walk from the receiving point before deciding where to settle. Look back towards the trees and buildings as well as out to sea: they explain why one section feels social and another feels more like hotel grounds. There is no need to find a supposedly single authentic Long Beach. The coast is lived in, visited and managed in different ways along its length.

Three starting points for three afternoons

Tran Hung Dao and Cua Lap put the beach beside the established dining and accommodation strip south of town. Sonasea is a separate southern cluster for someone already staying around its hotels and food streets. Phu Quoc Marina gives another destination, with Sailing Club as a named beach-club anchor. Pick the cluster before ordering a taxi or table. An address described simply as Long Beach can be a vehicle journey from another one with the same label. A local walk within your chosen stretch is different from assuming the entire coast is a continuous promenade. Use the road for a change of neighbourhood instead of improvising a route through several properties.

A specific sunset plan at Sailing Club

Sailing Club publishes its address at Lot B 7, Bai Truong Complex in Phu Quoc Marina, operating 06:30–22:00, with enquiries on 0931 031 035. Choose it for a food, drinks and music setting rather than an expectation of silence. For our suggested afternoon, arrive with enough daylight for a shore look, settle into a table and leave dinner as the main event. The club advertises fire entertainment and pool facilities, but that does not establish a fixed nightly show hour or an included pool package for every table. Arrange the service you want with the venue. If you prefer a quieter walk near your own hotel, there is no need to travel south just to see the same western sunset.

The west-facing shore and its changing weather

Our reporting describes both gentle water and rougher western afternoons, with sand, surf and washed-up material changing after wind and rain. That is useful context for the visit, not a reason to treat an entire season as either perfect or unusable. Check the current bathing area and flags where you arrive. Keep clear of fishing work and boat routes. If the water is rough, the trip can become a shorter shore walk followed by dinner rather than a disappointing failed swim. Arriving before the last light also lets you see the ground and waterline; a sunset photograph by itself says little about what is underfoot.

Keep the afternoon in one neighbourhood

Choose the facilities around the day you actually want. A restaurant table may be all that is needed for sunset; a longer beach stay may need shade, a lounger, towels and a changing place. Settle those with one receiving host rather than assuming a neighbouring hotel shares them. Bring a dry layer for dinner and keep the return pickup at the same entrance unless you deliberately change plans. From a central base, a short local visit often feels better than a coast-wide transfer. From a southern resort, the nearby Marina or Sonasea cluster may make more sense than returning to town. Let the location shorten the day’s logistics instead of adding another crossing.

FAQ

Practical questions about Long Beach

Is Long Beach the same as Bai Dai?

No. Bai Dai is a separate northwestern resort coast; Long Beach/Bai Truong is the western corridor south of Duong Dong.

Which section should I choose near town?

Start with the Tran Hung Dao and Cua Lap side, then choose an actual restaurant or receiving entrance. Sonasea and Marina are separate southern clusters.

Where is Sailing Club and when is it open?

Lot B 7, Bai Truong Complex in Phu Quoc Marina; published hours are 06:30–22:00. Enquiries:0931 031 035.

Can I walk the entire coast between hotels?

Do not build a route on that assumption. Keep a local shore walk near your arrival point and use road transport to change neighbourhood.

Is sunset at a fixed hour throughout the year?

No. Arrive in daylight and use the date’s sunset time for planning. Weather and cloud also change the view.

What if the sea is rough?

Leave swimming out, follow local warnings and keep the visit to a suitable shore walk and your chosen meal.
