Travel Information
What should I check before and during a Phu Quoc trip?
TRAVEL INFORMATION
The small errands decide how much of the holiday stays a holiday. Knowing which entrance the driver needs, when the laundry comes back and where the charger fits can save more effort than another list of attractions. Keep those details close to the place you are actually staying.
Phú Quốc uses Vietnam time, UTC+7. Save the Vietnamese address and road entrance offline, check appliance compatibility with 220V/50Hz, and settle laundry and ordinary shopping near the base. Use specialist guides when the question becomes medical, financial or transport-related.
A practical decision
Vietnam time is UTC+7 throughout the year.
Use local time for hotel pickup, ferry departure, attraction entry and flights. After an international journey, check the phone’s time zone before setting an alarm. A screenshot taken in another country can display a different context from the booking itself. For an arrival after midnight, write the date as well as the time so reception and driver are preparing for the same night.
Keep flight landing separate from being ready at the road pickup. For a ferry, keep the printed departure and boarding instructions together. If arranging a meal after an outing, tell the restaurant the expected arrival rather than the time the boat is due at the harbour. These are small differences until someone is waiting at the wrong place or on the wrong date.
A property’s beach name is not its pickup instruction.
Save the hotel’s full Vietnamese name, Vietnamese address, map pin, road entrance and reception number. Ask the property to send the version it uses with local drivers. A brand may have several buildings, and a sea-facing photograph can point away from the useful vehicle access. In Sunset Town, state the road-level entrance; in Ông Lang, distinguish a main-road junction from the lane to the bungalow.
Dương Đông and the northern end of Bãi Trường make different journeys from resorts farther down the same coast. Use the actual property when asking about a fare or delivery. Keep the address as copyable text and a screenshot, since one solves spelling while the other works offline. At a villa, add the host’s access instruction rather than sending a room number that means nothing at the outer gate.
Check the appliance label before the socket shape.
The supply is 220V at 50Hz. A plug adapter does not convert voltage. Check the actual device input and use an appropriately rated charger or electrical solution. Do not force a plug into a loose or unsuitable outlet; ask accommodation staff to provide a safe alternative. A place with sockets beside one bed may still have no convenient position for several family devices.
On arrival, charge the phone used for tickets and transport before heading out. Keep a cable and working power bank for the day, observing airline rules for travel with batteries. If someone uses essential powered medical or mobility equipment, discuss charging and power-interruption arrangements with the accommodation before booking. That is a different requirement from finding a spare phone outlet.
Agree weight or piece, drying and the collection deadline together.
Laundry may be charged by weight or by item. Ask how delicate clothes, drying, ironing and pickup are handled before handing over the bag. Count important pieces and keep the receipt or message. If changing hotels or leaving early, get a collection time that leaves room for delay rather than ordering a service whose finish coincides with the airport ride.
Separate wet swimwear from ordinary laundry and do not assume the service will treat specialist fabric as you do at home. For drinking water, ask what is supplied in the room and whether a refill point is intended for drinking. A reusable bottle is useful when the supply is suitable. Keep enough available before an early excursion rather than starting the morning looking for a shop that may not yet be open.
Use local help for the task, and a clinician for the medical decision.
For ordinary errands, ask reception for the nearest suitable laundry, grocery or pharmacy and its actual opening time. Town services in Dương Đông are not automatically near every west-coast resort. Combine small purchases with a meal or an existing journey instead of adding a cross-island trip for one forgotten item. During holidays, ask about the particular business rather than applying a national opening-hours table to every shop.
At a pharmacy, show the labelled medicine and prescription where applicable instead of asking only for a familiar overseas brand. If symptoms need assessment, use a clinic or medical advice rather than treating a sale as a diagnosis. For a child, pregnancy or an important condition, make those facts clear to the qualified professional. The health guide gives emergency and hospital contacts; this utility page does not prescribe a replacement treatment.
Keep a small set of useful details instead of a camera roll of scattered screenshots.
An offline arrival note should include date and local arrival time, airport or exact pier, booking contact, people and bags, accommodation name in Vietnamese, entrance pin and reception number. Add the payment arrangement and any essential access or child-seat confirmation. Share it with one companion. Keep passport copies and medical information in a secure place rather than spreading them through unrelated group chats.
After arrival, update the note when changing hotels or drivers. Add the laundry collection and any fixed departure you must meet. Let each specialist guide hold its own detail: money for payment methods, connectivity for SIM setup, health for care and transport for the actual ride. The everyday note is the bridge between them, small enough to find and use while standing at the door.
RELATED DECISIONS

Short answers to decisions that commonly need confirmation before travel.
Vietnam time, UTC+7 throughout the year. Keep pickup, ferry and flight arrangements on local time and include the date for a journey crossing midnight.
Full Vietnamese property name and address, road entrance pin and a callback number. Ask the hotel for its driver-facing version. A beachfront pin or room number alone may point to the wrong approach.
No. Ask about the actual outlet and check appliance compatibility with 220V, 50Hz. An adapter changes the connection, not voltage; request staff help with a loose or unsuitable socket.
Per-kilogram or per-item price, special fabrics, drying or ironing, pickup and the exact return time. Leave a margin before a hotel change or airport departure and keep the receipt.
Use a supply intended and suitable for drinking. Ask the accommodation what it provides and where its drinking-water refill is. Reuse should not mean accepting an unsuitable water source.
Local date/time, exact airport or pier, booking contact, people and bags, Vietnamese hotel name, road entrance and reception number. Add essential access or child-seat confirmations and share with one companion.
