Khem Beach: fine sand, a bay lunch and the resort shoreline

JW Marriott’s Bill Bensley design uses the fictional Lamarck University as its narrative. The academic names and theatrical buildings are part of a resort concept, not evidence that a nineteenth-century university actually stood on this beach. It gives the frontage a distinctive identity, but visiting those interiors needs an arrangement with that property. For a simpler bay lunch, your receiving restaurant may be elsewhere. Match the name on the reservation to the gate, especially when “Premier” appears in several nearby accommodation names. That is more useful than following a hotel photograph and hoping it leads to public facilities.

Premier Residences lists Clubhouse and Herring Bar with 10:00–23:00 opening hours and last orders at 22:30. Clubhouse has food, drinks and a children’s menu; Herring Bar gives a more explicitly beachfront barbecue setting. Its published food description includes grilled seafood and meat platters, herring salad and egg squid. For a sharing meal, a cooked platter with rice or vegetables is an easy starting point. Reserve the table you want and arrange any pool, shower or lounger separately. These are restaurant service hours, not a general timetable for swimming or access across the resort.

Khem is on the southern island’s eastern side, so it should not be treated as the same coast as western Long Beach. The island’s broadly drier November–April season is useful travel context, but the bay on the day is what matters for water time. Use the marked area and the guidance at your receiving section, keeping clear of watercraft. If you have booked a kayak or another activity, let that provider make its operating decision. You can still enjoy the sand and lunch when a swim is not the right choice; the day does not need to turn into a search for increasingly distant calm-looking water.

We would give Khem one unhurried afternoon instead of dividing the same hours between Khem and Sao for two similar sand photographs. If you want a contrast afterwards, Sunset Town has the different west-facing evening waterfront. Leave time for the vehicle transfer, changing clothes and the actual entrance for any booked performance. A whole-day Hòn Thơm cable-car and water-park visit is a different programme and can make Khem rushed. Staying overnight here is worthwhile when repeated bay time and the chosen hotel’s facilities matter; a single good beach lunch does not require changing your accommodation base.
